Planning on coming to Writers at Woody Point this Planning on coming to Writers at Woody Point this summer? It's their 20th edition and the popularity of this world-class literary and music festival continues to grow!

Here are a few tips and things to keep in mind when you're planning your trip:

✈️ 🚗 Air Access & Rental Cars
Woody Point is located on Bonne Bay in the heart of Gros Morne National Park, approximately a 45-minute drive from Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority. There are direct flights from Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and St. John’s. In the summer tourist season, both airline seats and rental cars are at a premium. If you’re coming, please book early!

🛏 Accommodations
Many of the places to stay in Woody Point are booked long before the festival (sometimes a year in advance!) If you can’t find a place to stay in town, try the nearby communities of Trout River, Shoal Brook, Birchy Head, Glenburnie and Lomond, all within a fifteen or twenty minute drive of Woody Point. Accommodations are also available across the bay in Norris Point and Rocky Harbour. There is a pedestrian water taxi from Norris Point to Woody Point which makes the trip several times a day, including sailings timed to the beginning and end of evening shows.

🎟 Tickets
Festival tickets go on sale on Saturday, May 13 at 11am NT sharp via Ticketpro. Other than a percentage of the house reserved for local residents, tickets are first come, first served. With a capacity of just over 200, the Heritage Theatre's intimate setting is part of what makes it such a wonderful space to hear readings and music. But that also means that not everyone is going to get the tickets they want, at least not right away.

All ticket sales are final and can't be exchanged, but the Woody Point Exchange Facebook group offers a place for people to buy and sell tickets, sometimes right up until showtime.

🙂 Non-Ticketed Events
If you don't get tickets to shows, don’t despair! There are also non-ticketed events during the festival including The Writers in the Wild Hike, afternoon pub readings, and late night music sessions. Some are free, some have a small cover charge, all are a great time!

Burnt Hill offers up both a Trail and a Tale!

🔥 The Tale
In 1898, a forest fire gave the people of Norris Point a scare. Mr. Tucker was boiling pitch to put on his boat when the contents of the tin caught on fire. Soon the boat was ablaze, then the nearby trees ignited and soon enough the whole hill was on fire! The town was saved by a narrow isthmus of land that stopped the fire from spreading.

🌲 The Trail
New trees have grown and now you can hike Burnt Hill Trail. Located at the Norris Point Waterfront at the end of Stone’s Lane, the 260-foot high hill is known as Neddy Hill, Big Hill and Burnt Hill. Surrounded by water on three sides and the Town of Norris Point on the other, the views are spectacular - a photographer’s paradise!
